Drought Tolerant Plants

Hubby wanted to get out and walk around, but not actually do anything. I love when he is in one of those moods because it means a trip to the plant section at the hardware store. The weather is warming up, so that means the store is getting in a wider variety of plants. I found two cuties that I had never tried before. The first is Strawflower ‘Ruby Clusters’. The leaves remind me of Lamb’s Ear, and the sweet ruby clusters look like little jewels. The rubies apparently will open up to pink flowers that fade to white with yellow centers in the Summer. It likes full to part sun and doesn’t need a lot of water. I put it in a pretty hot spot, but also right next to a fountain, so maybe the small splashes of water will keep the area cooler.

The other plant I got is Leucospermum, Pincushion. It is another plant that does well in a sunny dry location. They also note not to fertilize it. I have been training my whole life for a plant like this. Pop it in the ground and neglect it. I think it will get pretty tall, which is just what the space in my front yard needs.

It is a rare treat for me when the big box stores get in plants I haven’t tried yet, so I am really excited to see how these guys do. I will keep you updated!

Love your selection of plants! I’m trying a few succulents in the house this year. I’ve never had much luck with them, because I care too much. 😁 Here in MN, nothing much is growing outside yet.
